Hong Kong International Airport
Since 1998 the Hong Kong International Airport has been on Lantau, or more accurately on reclaimed land around the islet of Chek Lap Kok which adjoins Lantau. For this reason the Airport is commonly called "Chek Lap Kok Airport" in Hong Kong, though this term is not used elsewhere.
At the time of construction it had the largest terminal building of any airport in the world and today still ranks as one of the leading airports both in terms of size, capacity and modern comfort and facilities.
Connected to the rest of Hong Kong by express trains, buses and highways it is often though of an extension of the city than a part of Lantau. However being close to the other attractions of Lantau it is actually possible to visit many interesting sights on the island even if only one a long layover at the Airport.
