Hotels On Lantau
Despite it's size there are only a few Hotels on Lantau but they do cover a wide range from small locally run to big international, and there is even a youth hostel, with self catering "holiday flats" and serviced apartments all in evidence. Here are some of the major choices:
At the Airport
At Chek Lap Kok International Airport there are three major hotels available, one of which is connected by walkway to the arrivals hall while the others are a short drive away.
The Regal Airport Hotel - This modern hotel is located within the airport grounds and is connected by elevated walkway from the arrivals hall. A large and efficient hotel it is used mostly by passengers leaving and arriving at the airport and is ideally suited to the hurried traveler.

On Mui Wo / Silvermine Bay
Long before the Airport or the AsiaExpo centre, before even the Po Lin Monastery, the beach at Silvermine Bay was considered one of the best places to go for relaxing in all of Hong Kong. Inhabited since historical times, and briefly the home of two Chinese Emporers, the bay continues to be a quiet rural area that people visit for day trips or short breaks. Hence there is a variety of accommodation options, though only one "hotel".
Silvermine Beach Resort - This small purpose built hotel right on the beach and just 10 minutes walk from the ferry pier is equipped with all modern conveniences. A small restaurant and a swimming pool complete the facilities here. All within walking distance of the Mui Wo village which it's wide variety of shopping and dining choices, while being just across the path from the Silvermine Bay Beach this is an unbeatable location.
Seaview Holiday Resort - A collection of small apartment blocks has been turned into a small self-catering holiday accommodation. 11 Tung Wan Tau
Mui Wo Inn - Situated the 20 minutes walk from the ferry pier along a pedestrian only narrow beach path this was once the only Hotel in Mui Wo, and retains it's styling from the 1960s. Situated at 14 Tung Wan Tau Rd, Mui Wo, it is a great place to enjoy solitude on the island with only residential premises nearby.
Holiday Flats - This is a generic term for many of the independent operators who rent out flats for day or weekends. Hard to book in advance there are plenty available if you simply arrive at the kiosks near the ferry terminal on Mui Wo.
Discovery Bay
A semi-private residential resort area which is popular with expatriate families this part of Lantau has its own ferry from Central. It has one large resort style hotel.
Auberge Hotel - Accessible both from the Airport by bus, and from Central via ferry and then shuttle bus, the Auberge Hotel is a very new modern luxury hotel with swimming pool, buffet breakfasts, wifi and fantastic views overlooking Lantau, the sea and as far as Hong Kong Island. Located at 88 Siena Avenue, Discovery Bay.
Penny's Bay
The two Disney hotels in Hong Kong are both located on Lantau at Penny's Bay, just adjacent to the theme park, the Inspiration Lake, the MTR station and the Penny's Bay Diesel power plant. They are Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel.
Tai O Fishing Village
Tai O Heritage Hotel - A boutique hotel in a historic building situated in the fishing village of Tai O on the western end of Lantau. Built into a colonial era police station it is a heritage site which is open to the public, but also functions as a small hotel. Visit for a meal or a drink, or stay overnight.
Ngong Ping
YHA Ngong Ping Sg Davis Youth Hostel - This official youth hostel run by the Hong Kong Association of Youth Hostel is in attractive modern building just steps away from the Po Lin Monastery and Giant Buddha. Offering both dormitory and separate room accommodation and very low rates this is very much targeted at young travelers and does not offer sophisticated amenities. With only 38 dorm beds and just two rooms it is also often full so booking well in advance is advisable. Website: yha.org.hk
Consider also staying elsewhere in Hong Kong as there are many hotel choices.
